Sunday, September 27, 2015 marked the 14th Anniversary of the East Hills Mayor’s Trophy Cup. The softball tournament was the ingenious idea of Peter Wagner and Stewart Faden. It was designed to promote an event that would bring together all the finest softball players in East Hills. Peter and Stew have far exceeded these ambitious goals.
Once again this year, as in the past, a battle for the top spot did not disappoint anyone. However, the format was changed this year as 6 strong teams were drafted by coaches Peter Wagner, Stewart Faden, Gary Cohen, Joe Soffer, Aaron Elkowitz and Scott Daniels.
Although the Cohen team jumped out to a quick lead, the team led by Joe Soffer battled back the whole way. However, in the end, dominant pitching led the team coached by Gary Cohen to an 11-6 victory. For Gary Cohen this was his 8th tournament appearance, his 7th bid in the finals, and his 4th championship victory. Brett has entered 6 times with 6 finals and 4 wins. Devin has entered 4 times with 3 finals and 2 championships. Bobby and Josh have entered 5 times with 5 finals and 3 wins.
