Environmental Recycling Pilot Program to be discontinued

Update: June 9, 2021

Our 3-month Pilot Program for Recyclables has been evaluated and we are discontinuing it on Monday, June 14, 2021.  The five-day pick-up, designed to ensure recyclables were picked-up separately turned out to be too inconvenient for the residents. Thank you for your input which allowed us to reach a decision early.

We are reverting to the former Recycling Schedule before the Pilot Program was initiated on Monday, June 14, 2021.

NORTH OF HARBOR HILL ROAD RECYCLABLES:

Beginning, again, Monday, June 14, 2021:

Recyclables, (Mixed: plastics, metal and glass), for areas North of Harbor Hill are picked up on Tuesdays.
Recyclables, (Newspapers and cardboard), for areas North of Harbor Hill are picked up on Thursdays.

SOUTH OF HARBOR HILL ROAD RECYCLABLES:

Beginning again, Monday, June 14, 2021:

Recyclables, (Mixed: plastics, metal and glass), for areas South of Harbor Hill will be picked up on Wednesdays.
Recyclables, (Newspapers and cardboard), for areas South of Harbor Hill will be picked up on Fridays.

Please see the calendar sent previously to all resident for the full schedule for sanitation and recycling at https://villageofeasthills.org/information/village-calendar/ .

The Pilot Program led to an important internal change. We will now have two separate runs on each day of pick-up, as follows. The first, to collect all household garbage only. The second, after the trucks are emptied in the yard, will be to return to pick up recyclables only. The two-run system should eliminate the problem of recyclables being mixed with household garbage.

Reminders:  Please do not put out garbage containers and recycling before 5 pm the night before a pick-up, or after 6am on the day of a pick-up. Also, please bring back promptly into the garage, garbage containers that have been emptied.

Important Notice on PILOT PROGRAM ON RECYCLING, (NOT SANITATION/HOUSEHOLD GARBAGE WHICH REMAINS THE SAME).

A new pilot program is now in effect for RECYCLING ONLY for three months. It is designed to maximize our environmental efforts, and be certain that sanitation is never disposed of together with recyclables.
