East Hills Social Committee Book Club Hosts its First Meeting!

On Tuesday, April 18, 2023, the East Hills Social Committee Book Club held its first meeting to discuss the New York Times bestselling book, Lessons in Chemistry, by Bonnie Garmus.

Residents of East Hills met at the Village Theater to discuss the book, which has been on the bestsellers list for 48 weeks in a row. Attendees each had an opportunity to share their opinions and what they enjoyed about the book, and participated in great discussion, ranging from the title and cover of the book, to the characters, the ending, and the themes of the book, such as women’s challenges in the workplace in the 60s, like the gender pay gap and sexual harassment, all of which still exist today.

The Book Club, set up by the East Hills Social Committee, will meet once a month at the Village Theater, from 7:30-8:30pm. The book club is open to all residents. The next meeting will discuss Mad Honey by Jennifer Finney Boylan, and will be held on May 16th. Light refreshments will be served.

The event was planned by The East Hills Social Committee. The Co-Chairs are Fanny Boneh, Lindsay Giloni, and Rachel Tubian. The Supervising Trustee is Clara Pomerantz.
